• Wes Hayes coaches Haskell hoops on anniversary of heart attack

    By: Jeff Kolb

    • Wes Hayes was back on the court coaching Haskell boys basketball Tuesday on the one year anniversary of his massive heart attack. Hayes and the Haymakers faced Porter, the same team he coached against exactly a year earlier on the night he nearly lost his life
    • Hayes had what's called a widowmaker heart attack. The doctor that saved his life told him they'd seen over 20 widowmaker heart attacks and he was the first patient to survive one.
    • Hayes and Haskell beat Porter to secure their first 20-win season in 27 years
    • Wes is also a red dirt singer/songwriter. He has a 23-year old son named Micah and 16-year old daughter named Madison. Wes wrote the song "Yesterday" for his late son, Jacob Lee, who passed away 20 years ago at 16-days-old. He's also in the process of writing a song "widowmaker" inspired by his experience coming through the heart attack
