OWASSO — Sperry quarterback Beau Teel surpassed 10,000 total yards in his career Thursday night.
But reaching that milestone paled in comparison to raising the gold ball as he celebrated with Sperry fans after the fourth-ranked Pirates’ 35-14 victory over No. 2 Beggs before an estimated 5,000 fans at Owasso Stadium.
“Shock, I couldn’t believe what was happening, honestly it was a great experience,” Teel said about his emotions as Sperry won its first-ever OSSAA state football title.
Teel had 168 total yards and two TD runs for the Pirates (14-1), who avenged their only loss of the season in their first state final appearance since 1968.
