BIXBY, Okla. - It's the first week of spring football, and Bixby is coming off a state title which is nothing new for the Spartans. Four state titles in the last five years have belonged to Bixby. Now, they’re trying to make it five of six.
“We have some potential, head coach Loren Montgomery said. “We have some really good guys, but we'll just kind of see how they'll develop.”
One of the guys Montgomery is glad to have back, quarterback Mason Williams. He led the team last year as a sophomore.
“Definitely say I feel a lot more comfortable and confident coming into this season than last year because last year was brand new, so my nerves were up. This year is a lot better,” Williams said.
Despite those nerves, he still helped bring home a state championship by throwing for more than 3,000 yards. The Spartans tell me it's all about buying in to coach Montgomery's message to bring back another gold ball. This year everyone on the roster is all in.
“Every person that comes in here, every freshman that comes up pretty much knows that that's the mentality here and that's what we do,” senior linebacker Brody Sartin said. “Like coach Montgomery says every year, commit to the process.”
Committing to the process, that's what it takes to build a dynasty the Spartan way.
