OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure on his right knee, according to a news release from the team.
The decision to have the procedure done came after Westbrook experienced inflammation in his knee over the weekend.
Team officials said Westbrook will be re-evaluated in approximately four weeks. The Thunder's first regular season game is scheduled for Oct. 16 against the Golden State Warriors.
The Thunder will make a preseason appearance at Tulsa's BOK Center in a game against the Atlanta Hawks on Oct. 7.
ESPN's Royce Young said Westbrook could miss preseason because of the procedure:
Russell Westbrook underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee today after feeling some stiffness in the last week. It's a preemptive "maintenance" procedure. He'll be re-evaluated in four weeks, which could force him to miss the preseason.
