- According to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle, the Oakland A's expect Sooners quarterback Kyler Murray to declare for the NFL Draft before Monday's deadline
- The A's drafted Murray with the No. 9 pick in June's Major League Baseball Draft, then allowed him to return to the University of Oklahoma this fall to play football. Murray went on the lead OU to the College Football Playoffs, winning the Heisman Trophy on the way. During the season, Murray maintained that his plan was to finish out his football season at OU, then go begin his professional baseball career
- If Murray does enter the NFL Draft, he'll have some hard decisions to make in February. Oakland A's position players report on Feb. 15, not long before the NFL Scouting Combine on Feb. 26.
- Murray would hav to return the $4.66 million signing bonus to the A's if he does pick football over baseball. If that happens, Oakland would still have Murray's baseball rights, should he decide to switch from the NFL back to the MLB
