OU tops TCU, advances to Big-12 Championship

ARLINGTON, Texas – David Sandlin registered a season high 10 strikeouts over 7.0 innings and Peyton Graham homered to lead Oklahoma to a 4-3 win over Kansas State in the semifinals of the 2022 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship Saturday afternoon at Globe Life Field.

The Sooners (36-20) will play in the Big 12 Championship game at 5 p.m. Sunday against the winner of the Oklahoma State-Texas semifinal Saturday evening.

Jimmy Crooks hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to give Oklahoma a 3-2 lead. Graham provided an insurance run in the seventh inning with his 16th home run of the season, and fifth this year at Globe Life Field.

Tanner Tredaway drove in the first run of the game with a two-out single in the bottom of the first inning. Graham set up the scoring opportunity with his one-out double down the left field line.

The Wildcats (29-29) tied the game in the top of the second when an error allowed a run to come home, then went ahead 2-1 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Cash Rugely. An RBI single by Cole Johnson in the eighth inning made the final margin.

Sandlin turned in his third outstanding start at Globe Life Field this season. In games against Northwestern State (Feb. 26), Texas (April 2) and Kansas State, he combined to pitch 19.0 innings, tally 25 strikeouts and allow 12 hits, two earned runs and three walks.

On Saturday, Sandlin struck out four straight batters starting with the last out of the second inning and punched out the side in the third and sixth frames. The seven-inning outing was his longest since pitching a season-high 8.0 innings against UTSA on March 13.

Oklahoma will make its fourth appearance in the Big 12 Championship game on Sunday. The Sooners are 2-1, with title victories in 1997 and 2013.
