OU cancels men’s basketball game with Florida, home-and-home to tip off in ‘21

OU men’s basketball has canceled Wednesday’s home opener against Florida.

The university announced the news Sunday evening. The Sooners have dealt with a COVID-19 outbreak on the team for nearly one week.

The Sooners and Gators were originally set to play a home-and-home starting in Norman in 2020 and in Gainesville in 2021. The school says the series will tip off next year.

OU most recently beat Florida in 2018′s Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas, a 65-60 Sooner win. In 2017, the Gators handed the Sooners an 84-52 loss in Norman, OU’s worst margin of defeat at the Lloyd Noble Center.

Current Sooners head coach Lon Kruger led the Gator program from 1990 to 1996. As head coach, he took Florida to the Final Four in 1994. His time at Florida also included an overtime win over the Sooners at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City.
