NORMAN, Okla. — OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione is optimistic Memorial Stadium will return to ‘maximum capacity’ in the fall.
In an email sent to ticketholders Friday, Castiglione said the university’s planning process for football games would rely on consultation with the state’s leading medical experts in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With the vaccination adoption, we are encouraged by the improvement we are seeing across Oklahoma,” Castiglione said. “You can rest assured that we will remain vigilant in our preparations, but for now, we are working under the assumption the stadium will be full.”
OU operated at around 25 percent capacity at home games in 2020, peaking at 22,700 fans.
“As you know, a Sooner home game is among the greatest spectacles in sports,” Castiglione said. “We are excited to again hear the roar of our great crowd while delivering for our student-athletes the unparalleled experience of competing on Owen Field.”
