“Just keep swimming” | Prep swimmer wades through mysterious illness

Aydin Horn woke up with a flu-like bug in September 2017, and he hasn’t been the same since.

The 16-year-old Bixby High School swimmer has fought a mysterious illness that’s troubled him for three-plus years.

While Horn and his family are still searching for answers, he’s dealt with bouts of extreme fatigue and vomiting episodes - at one point throwing up for 208 consecutive days.

Horn was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease; however, gastrointestinal issues were only a small portion of the puzzle. He said his doctors told him Crohn’s don’t explain his main symptoms.

Still, Horn is competing at meets and swimming at his best since he was 12. He dreams of swimming collegiately.

“Just because you got some reason you can’t do as much as you want to, doesn’t stop you from achieving goals you’ve had for your entire life,” Horn said.
