Canceled by coronavirus: No Drillers minor league baseball season this year

It’s official. The Tulsa Drillers will not have a minor league baseball season this year, and neither will anyone else because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Drillers will still have a team in the Texas Collegiate League and will play 15 games at ONEOK Field plus 15 road games.

Minor League Baseball sent out a tweet Tuesday afternoon to make the announcement. The tweet said Major League Baseball will not provide players for minor league teams. It’s the first time Tulsa will be without professional baseball since the summer of 1945.

The announcement does not affect the Drillers’ team in the Texas Collegiate League. The TCL Drillers will play a 30-game schedule with 15 home games slated to be played at ONEOK Field in front of fans but with a limited stadium capacity. The home schedule for the Drillers runs from June 30 through July 26.
