Bedlam baseball will return to ONEOK Field in 2021, Oklahoma State baseball coach Josh Holliday said Monday.
Holliday said the second non-conference game scheduled for Tuesday, May 11 will take place in Tulsa.
The No. 17 OSU Cowboys (15-6-1, 4-2 Big 12) and Oklahoma Sooners (13-10, 1-2 Big 12) had both expressed hesitance in late 2019 to play rivalry games at the minor league ballpark in Tulsa - as well as Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. However, the occupant Tulsa Drillers announced in early 2020 the series would return to the stadium that March. The COVID-19 pandemic canceled those plans, as well as the 2020 spring sports season.
This season, the Cowboys opened their state-of-the-art, brand new O’Brate Stadium (which finished construction in 2020). OU has also renovated L. Dale Mitchell Park. Holliday said Monday that both programs agreed the rivalry atmosphere is collegiate in nature, and it made sense to keep most, if not all, of the games on college campuses.
The return of Bedlam to ONEOK Field will mark the 30th consecutive full collegiate season in which OU and OSU have played a game in Tulsa.
The Pokes and Sooners will play their first non-conference Bedlam game on Tuesday, March 30 in Stillwater.
