Baker Mayfield wins 2017 Heisman Trophy

Baker Mayfield has won the 2017 Heisman Trophy, becoming the sixth Sooner to ever win college football's most prestigious individual award.

  • Baker Mayfield has won the 2017 Heisman Trophy award, given annually to the best player in all of college football
  • Mayfield beat out the other two finalists: Lamar Jackson, the Louisville quarterback who won the 2016 Heisman; and Bryce Love, Stanford's star running back
  • Mayfield becomes the 6th sooner to win the Heisman (ironically, he wears No. 6), joining Billy Vessels (1952), Steve Owens (1969), Billy Sims (1978), Jason White (2003) and Sam Bradford (2008).
  • After his nomination, fans began a petition regarding his statue for Heisman Park, the feature at OU honoring the school's winners.
