SPAVINAW, Okla. - UPDATE (09/18/2017): The state has declined to file charges in the case.

    Quick facts:

    • Susan Winn is accused of trying to burn down a trailer.
    • Winn is married to the Mayor of Spavinaw.
    • Winn said she had only tried to scare the trailer's owner.

The Mayor of Spavinaw is speaking out after his wife was arrested over allegations that she tried to set her brother's trailer on fire.

William Mester told investigators that his sister, Susan Winn, had said she wanted him off her property.

The suspect allegedly said she admitted to telling her brother to move off the property and then pouring gasoline around the trailer to scare him.

Mayor Jim Winn said he was with his wife when she poured gasoline around her brother's trailer, but he said she was just trying to get Mester's attention.

People in the town say the story could give Spavinaw a bad reputation.

Susan Winn was booked into jail on a complaint of fourth degree arson, which means she's accused of willfully and maliciously attempting to set a fire.
