• Wagoner residents worry as Unarco announces layoffs

    WAGONER, Okla. - Quick facts:

    • Unarco Industries is laying off workers from a Wagoner plant.
    • Some say they are worried about the layoffs.
    • The company says the move is in line with seasonal fluctuations.


    Unarco Industries, a shopping cart manufacturer and one of Wagoner's biggest employers, announced layoffs.

    The layoffs began Thursday.

    The company said the layoffs are in line with seasonal fluctuations, but some employees say they aren't buying it.

    The Wagoner plant has employed around 150 people since it moved there 30 years ago.

    One employee said the company has already laid off dozens of people from two temp agencies.

    The company also has plants in China and Virginia.

    Unarco released a statement regarding the layoffs:

    "During these typical seasonal fluctuations we adjust our staffing in line with production requirements. We enjoy excellent relationships with our key customer’s and are always positioned to meet their needs. We will continue to make decisions that best fit the overall health of our company while minimizing the impact to our employees.
    We are looking forward to a positive 2017."
