Tulsa Zoo announces death of 31-year-old iguana

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Zoo announced that their Grand Cayman blue iguana, Lewis, passed away at the age of 31.

Lewis arrived at the zoo in 2000 and was an important ambassador for his endangered species. The Tulsa Zoo said there is less than 1,000 Grand Caymans left in the wild.

Over the last three or four weeks, staff saw a decline in health and mobility due to his advanced age.

At 31-years-old, he was one of the oldest of his species in the country.
