TULSA, Okla. — Police arrested a Tulsa Uber driver accused of assaulting a woman he drove home.
Investigators said the alleged assault happened earlier this month, but the suspect wasn't arrested until Wednesday morning.
Steven Whitesell responded to an Uber request to pick up a woman from Cain's Ballroom in downtown Tulsa on Nov. 1, police said. He reportedly took her friend home first, then took the woman to her home. Surveillance footage shows Whitesell going into the house with her and staying there for about half an hour.
Investigators said he left and came back to the home a couple hours later, this time staying inside for about an hour.
The victim told police she had been drinking before requesting a driver. She said she didn't remember everything that happened but that she woke up to the suspect touching her inappropriately.
Police said Whitesell initially denied the allegations but later admitted to sexually assaulting her. He said he didn't lock the door when he left the first time and that was how he got back in the second time. Investigators said he assaulted her during both encounters.
Whitesell faces allegations of burglary, forcible sodomy and two counts of rape by instrumentation.
