TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa Public School officials are investigating a teacher seen on cellphone video throwing chairs and yelling in a classroom.
The incident happened Wednesday at Edison Preparatory School near 41st and Harvard.
District leaders confirm the teacher is new to the district and teaches English. Superintendent Deborah Gist said the principal immediately stepped in and taught the remaining classes for the day.

One student told FOX23 the actions in the video do not reflect the man as a person or a teacher. She said he was constantly picked on and disrespected by students since the Fall semester started.
According to the student, someone said a racial slur and started an argument right before the events seen in the video.
She said the teacher flipped the desk out of frustration from hearing the racial slur and seeing students not do what they were told.
While the situation should have been handled differently, the student said she doesn't think the teacher should be fired.
FOX23 reached out to Tulsa Public Schools for a statement:
"There is no situation in which this adult behavior would be warranted regardless of a student’s words or actions. We are continuing to work closely with the school and will address any student-based issues appropriately. We will not tolerate degrading language anywhere in our district - it is absolutely unacceptable. We expect everyone in the Tulsa Public Schools community – students, teachers, and staff – to treat each other with kindness and respect and to behave in a way that reflects our core values of equity, character, excellence, team, and joy."
The teacher has not been back in the classroom and the district is still reviewing the incident.
