Tulsa Public Schools board member calls for superintendent’s resignation

TULSA, Okla. — A member of Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) Board of Education is calling for the immediate resignation of the TPS superintendent.

Tuesday, TPS District 6 Board Member Dr. Jerry Griffin said he’s calling for the resignation of TPS Superintendent Dr. Deborah Gist.

“Dr. Gist has become an [embarrassment] to those who care about restoring the educational foundation of what was once one of the finest schools in the United States,” said Griffin. “Her attacks on the governor of this state are outrageous and her personal attacks on an individual board member subject [our] school system to great financial liability.”

Griffin went on to say he will prepare a petition for Gist’s removal from office if she refuses to resign.

A TPS board meeting was held Monday after Gist posted on Facebook that Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt is on track to become “the most corrupt governor in 47 years”. Last week, Stitt called for an audit of TPS over potential mishandling of COVID relief funds.

After Monday’s meeting, Gist criticized board members on Facebook Live after she said they failed to approve agenda items that are essential to the district’s ability to serve its students.
