TIA officer hit during shootout at Tulsa International Airport, suspect identified

TULSA, Okla. — UPDATE, 12/1/2021, 11:27 a.m.: Police have identified the suspect as Joseph Watson.


Tulsa police responded to a shooting at Tulsa International Airport just after midnight Wednesday.

Tulsa Police Captain Jerrod Hart says TIA security was alerted to a domestic situation that started in Houston. Captain Hart says the man came back to Tulsa and the woman returned around midnight Wednesday. Hart says the man started shooting at her outside of Tulsa International Airport.

An airport transport van carrying five people was caught in the crossfire. Two people were hit with what Hart believes to be shrapnel, adding that they are expected to be okay.

TIA officers chased the gunman to a lower level parking garage where they entered a shootout. Hart says one TIA officer was shot in the chest, but he was wearing a vest and is expected to be okay. The suspect was shot in the foot and is in police custody.

Tulsa police are interviewing the wife and brother they say were targeted.

Police have not released the names of the suspect or victims.
