Woman expected to recover after she confronted TPD with weapons, was shot by officers

TULSA, Okla. — UPDATE (7/08; 4:39 p.m.) — Police said Michele Burke is the woman who was shot by police after allegedly swinging a sword and threatening to kill her neighbors.

TPD said Burke was shot twice, once in the elbow and once in the chest, after police saw her coming out of the second story back porch of the home armed with a revolver and was believed to be putting people in grave danger.

They said she was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and she is expected to recover from her injuries.

Police also said the house she was at is a condemned property owned by the City of Tulsa and has condemnation notices posted on the front door.

They said Burke is the former owner of the house and has been a known trespasser of the home for some time.

The Officer who discharged their firearm has been placed on Administrative Leave pending the investigation. The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office will evaluate the case and determine if the force used was justified.
