Tulsa inmate found wedged between mattress and wall, dies at hospital

TULSA, Okla. — An inmate at the David L. Moss Jail died after he was brought to the hospital on Monday.

Dean Stith was a homeless man being held at the downtown Tulsa jail when deputies say at about 4 a.m. his mattress slid off of his bed, and Stith became wedged between the bed and the wall.

Stith was taken by ambulance to the the OSU Medical Center, and died soon after arrival.

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said its jail investigations unit will conduct a thorough investigation and the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the inmate’s cause of death.
