Tulsa County DA Steve Kunzweiler back home after police say his daughter stabbed him earlier Tuesday

TULSA, Okla. — UPDATE (09/27; 8:24 p.m.) — Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler was released from Saint Francis after he was stabbed Tuesday afternoon in his south Tulsa home.

“Unfortunately today, I found myself in a situation that I hoped would never happen,” Kunzweiler said in a statement Tuesday night. “Fortunately, my injuries are such that I was able to go home. Thank you to everyone who expressed concern for me and my family. I am most appreciative of the response from the Tulsa Fire Department, EMSA, the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. I am also very grateful for the professionalism and care of the staff and doctors at Saint Francis Hospital in treating me for my injuries.”

One of his daughters, Jennifer Kunzweiler, was arrested by Tulsa Police for stabbing Kunzweiler Tuesday afternoon.

Police told FOX23 Jennifer Kunzweiler was dealing with a mental health situation before the stabbing.

UPDATE (09/27; 6:20 p.m.) — Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin announced on Twitter Tuesday evening that Tulsa Police have arrested Jennifer Kunzweiler for stabbing District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler in their south Tulsa home.

“Detectives are continuing to gather evidence,” Franklin said.

UPDATE (09/27; 3:52 p.m.) — The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Tuesday afternoon that District Attorney (DA) Steve Kunzweiler was stabbed in his Forest Hills Estates home Tuesday.

Kunzweiler’s office released the following statement:

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler was allegedly stabbed more than once by an adult family member on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Kunzweiler was immediately taken to the hospital by emergency services. All relevant police authorities are aware of the situation and are conducting their investigations presently. Mr. Kunzweiler was awake and talking on the way to the hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries. The entire Kunzweiler family would appreciate your prayers and concerns as they go through this struggle. They would also appreciate your concern for their privacy at this time.

City of Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum released a statement as well:

“District Attorney Kunzweiler is a courageous public servant, and I think the world of his family. Our family’s prayers are with them tonight.”

Tulsa Police officers are investigating after a man was stabbed by his daughter in a Forest Hills Estates home Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene after reports of a domestic incident in the south Tulsa home. Police confirmed to FOX23 the daughter stabbed herself and then her father.
