Truck hauling bees overturns in Choctaw County

CHOCTAW COUNTY, Okla. — A truck hauling bees overturned in Choctaw County Tuesday morning.

According to Choctaw County Emergency Management Director Pat Collins, the truck rolled over on its side at the U.S. Highway 271 and U.S. Highway 70 bypass at the Idabel entrance ramp. This is just northwest of Hugo.

Collins said the call to emergency management came in at 5:45 a.m. A local beekeeper was recruited to help. The beekeeper said the bees could be anywhere, and advised everyone in the Hugo area should be careful.

She is also requesting experienced beekeepers to help move the truckload of bees onto another truck.

The truck driver requested EMS. The owner of the bees was notified of the situation.
