WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. — Dramatic video shows a Michigan police officer saving a 93-year-old man who reportedly drove into a pond Sunday morning.
Officer Alex Lang waded into the pond and braved shoulder-deep frigid water to save the man, the newspaper reported.
“At the time, (Lang) didn’t actually know that the vehicle had been in the pond for an hour already,” Lawson told WXYZ-TV.
Lawson said the vehicle was submerged up to the bottom of its windows, the Press reported.
The man can be heard in the video pleading,“I gotta get out of here.”
Lang continued to offer encouragement to the man as he moved to remove him from the car, WXYZ reported.
“Keep focusing, you got it, boss,” Lang can be heard on the video.
Lang pulled the man from the vehicle and carried him to the shore, where medical personnel were waiting, the Press reported.
“He was able to get to the door open and he was able to carry that gentleman to the shore and turn him over to the medical personnel,” Lawson told WXYZ.
Police did not provide further details on the man’s condition.
