Deputies find toddler in dog cage during animal rescue operation

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — Deputies in western Tennessee, involved in a large animal rescue operation, said they found a toddler in a dog cage Thursday.

Deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said they found the child at a residence in Buchanan, WZTV reported. The child, who is under the age of 2, was found in a cage in the same room as several large constricting snakes next to a box of live mice, WTVF reported.

Authorities said three people were detained for questioning and will be facing charges, the television station reported. District attorney Matt Stowe told WTVF that those people were the child’s parents and a grandparent.

Deputies rescued more than 100 animals from the home and also found several large marijuana plants, WTVF reported. Several guns were also confiscated, WVLT reported.

An official with the Sheriff’s Office said the department was not releasing any more information until a Friday news conference, WKRN reported.
