WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University suspended 36 students Wednesday for violating its mask and social distancing policies.
University officials said the violations were caused by students holding a gathering in doors, WTHR reported.
“No one was wearing face masks or social distancing as reported by the Purdue University Police Department,” Katie Sermersheim, associate vice provost and dean of students, said in a release. “It’s very disappointing and discouraging that we haven’t even officially launched the semester and we’ve had a social function that violates our ‘Protect Purdue’ policies and plans.”
Sermersheim said officials will strictly enforce conduct guidelines to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
