Beauty school drop-in: Canadian man takes tutorial to help wife of 50 years with hair, makeup

ALBERTA, Canada — Delmar College of Hair and Esthetics had an unusual drop-in two weeks ago when a 79-year-old husband sought impromptu lessons in helping his wife of 50 years look her best.

Carrie Hannah, director of the Alberta, Canada school, told South West News Service that the man, who wished to remain unidentified, told her that his wife had always “taken pride” in her appearance, but failing eyesight was making it difficult for her to maintain her beauty regimen, People reported.

Specifically, the man said that his wife kept burning herself with a curling wand, so he wanted to learn to style her hair, Hannah said.

In turn, a Delmar College student, with an assist from a mannequin, walked the man through how to curl his wife’s hair while protecting her skin. He also asked for a tutorial in applying his wife’s mascara, People reported.

“He spent about an hour with us for lessons on curling iron sets and mascara application,” Hannah told SWNS, noting that he gushed about his “beautiful” bride and bragged on her accomplishments.

“He lovingly pulled pictures from his wallet, showing everyone his wife, and boasting about how beautiful she has always been and how talented she was with skill set of typing over 100 words a minute when she was working,” Hannah told the outlet.

According to Fox News, the experience left Hannah’s students and staff “so touched by his sincere wish” to help his wife.

“They look after each other and still have love and admiration for each other. That had all of us in tears after he left,” she told the network.

“That’s what real love looks like, and [I’m] glad our staff and students had an opportunity to be part of this, too,” Hannah said, adding, “In an age of staged social media photos, it was really great to see an authentic, real human gesture of love.”
