George Zimmerman sparks outrage for posting gun used to kill Trayvon Martin on auction website

George Zimmerman is reportedly auctioning off the gun used to kill Trayvon Martin.

According to the listing on GunBroker.com, the Department of Justice recently returned the gun, a Kel-Tec PF-9 9 mm, to Zimmerman.

"Prospective bidders, I am honored and humbled to announce the sale of an American Firearm Icon," Zimmerman wrote in the product description. "The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012."

In July 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the 2012 shooting death of Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old. The teen's death sparked protests and was "seen by some as the nascent origins of the Black Lives Matter movement underway across the country," according to The Associated Press.

Zimmerman called the gun "a piece of American History" and claimed the Smithsonian Museum in Washington "expressed interest in owning and displaying the firearm."

"The firearm is fully functional as the attempts by the Department of Justice on behalf of B. Hussein Obama to render the firearm inoperable were thwarted by my phenomenal Defense Attorney," Zimmerman wrote. "I recognize the purchaser's ownership and right to do with the firearm as they wish."

Zimmerman said some of the proceeds will be used to "fight BLM violence against Law Enforcement officers, ensure the demise of Angela Correy's (sic) persecution career and Hillary Clinton's anti-firearm rhetoric."

Zimmerman presumably was referring to Angela Corey, the special prosecutor who investigated Martin's death.

Social-media users pounced on the news.

The auction begins at 11 a.m. ET Thursday and starts at $5,000.
