Suspect in stolen construction truck hits Stillwater police officer

STILLWATER, Okla. — A strange chase through Stillwater lead to an officer being hospitalized Wednesday.

Stillwater Police began a chase this afternoon near 12th and Western. They say Carlos Javier Lopez, who was driving a stolen, construction vehicle, drove into oncoming traffic lanes and hitting cars.

Police say Lopez refused to stop and hit several more cars and police units. It was a head-on collision that stopped the chase several blocks later. at 6th St. Officers say the driver tried to run from the scene but was arrested.

A police officer was injured while preforming a tactical vehicle intervention trying to stop Lopez. The officer is currently receiving treatment at Stillwater Medical Center. Officials say that officer had some soft tissue injuries and he will likely be released this afternoon.

This is still under investigation.
