BIXBY, Okla. — Bixby police arrested a Bixby Public School substitute teacher on complaints of making a lewd proposal to a minor.
Police say Anna Ruth Lewis had an inappropriate relationship with a student at the Bixby 9th grade center.
The allegations were reported to the principal when the victim told a teacher that another student told him Lewis asked another class she was subbing for if they knew him and told them she was talking to and sleeping with him. The principal also said she got a call from a parent who said his daughter overheard similar comments.
"On November 9, 2017, a student reported to a teacher that on a previous day, a substitute teacher had made inappropriate comments and innuendo about another student. The substitute was immediately questioned about the incident and released from the position. School personnel reported the information to the student's parent and legal authorities on November 9, 2017.
Substitute teachers at Bixby Public Schools are not direct employees of the district but are contracted via a substitute teaching personnel service. Bixby Public Schools current substitute teaching contract is with Kelly Services. As with any contractor or vendor working with the district, all companies are required to perform background checks on any employees that have been vetted and that no employees have been convicted of a sex crime."
The resource officer also interviewed the victim. He said he met Lewis when she subbed for one of his classes and later she sent him a message on Instagram about changing the oil in her car. He said they talked on Snapchat about the car. He said they used Instagram and Snapchat to communicate and she sent him several nude photos.
Lewis agreed to talk to Bixby police about the allegations. She confirmed that she was a sub at Bixby and the victim was in one of the classes she subbed. She said she downloaded Snapchat and he sent her an add request. She told police she was going through a lot and she'd been drinking a lot. She said she was drunk almost every night. She did say she was not drunk when the victim sent her an explicit photo. That's when she said "I'm scared to talk to you because not only are you a minor and I'm 22, but you're also a student for the school I work for."
