The team is a group of students and faculty from the University of Oklahoma, National Severe Storms Lab, and other organizations that venture out into different weather events to gather data.

Dr. Michael Biggerstaff says the team is working on few different projects including lightning research, thunderstorm research, and hurricanes including Harvey and Irma.

Biggerstaff says that the SMART-R team is important for many reasons including training the next generation of scientists.
