As more of the cold weather moves in and sticks around - now is the time to make sure that your house is ready to keep you and your family warm.

Whether you are looking to spend little-to-no money or wanting to overhaul your heating system - there are many things you can do to help out your heater.

One free option is easy on a sunny day - open the blinds on your windows, especially on the south side of the house.

If you want to take it a step further, check for air leaks around your windows and doors.

Other things that help, can include changing out the furnace filters every month, making sure that your house has insulation and getting a humidifier.
