SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — A staging area for multiple fire departments was set up Friday in the parking lot of the Sand Springs Osage Casino.
Firefighters Asked Management To Evacuate The Casino Friday Due To Grass Fires
The shift manager, Craig Barnes, told FOX23 that several departments monitored the fire near the casino and eventually told management to start evacuating people to keep them safe.
The Casino Parking Lot Became A Staging Area For Firefighters
After the casino evacuated, firefighters began to stage in the casino’s parking lot.
“It did get pretty close. They did a back fire on the back side of the hill and worked it away to protect the property. It was pretty scary, but this whole north parking lot was full with fire departments. They came from all over,” Barnes said.
Grass fires have been a problem for Green Country off and on for the past week.
The FOX23 Severe Weather Team is tracking an elevated fire risk for Monday.
