‘Reservation Dogs’ to use Tulsa’s former Park Elementary

TULSA, Okla. — Skoden! “Reservation Dogs” is coming to west Tulsa.

Tulsa Public Schools’ Board of Education unanimously approved a short-term rental agreement with Minim Productions at Monday’s meeting. The lease allows the production crew to use the former Park Elementary School while they work on season two of the FX series “Reservation Dogs” nearby.

“It makes me really excited to think that not only are they giving back by renting a facility within Tulsa Public Schools but they will also be right by Webster High School where we have this amazing program going to get kids more involved and more knowledgeable of the film industry, " said board President Stacey Woolley.

The District will receive approximately $75,000 in rental payments during this short-term lease, and it is working with Minim Production to develop opportunities for TPS students to gain exposure and experiences relating to film production.

“We feel really confident that we will have students that will be able to be a part of the filming and that will be really cool,” says TPS Superintendent Dr. Deborah Gist.

Webster High Schools is about a mile east of Park. The High School is home to the district’s only TV studio. Students can join the Television, Film and Digital Media class starting in 8th grade. Students learn leadership and technical skills through hands-on projects.

“This program gives students the opportunity to earn industry certifications so that immediately after graduation they are ready to either further their media education with a college degree or to enter the workforce and pursue a career in Oklahoma’s growing television and film industry,” said teacher teacher Dennis Burns.

The former school, near West 41st and the Red Fork Expressway was closed in 2017 as part of an effort to offset a budget shortfall.

The production agency will work solely indoors, according to the lease, using office and storage space to house production staff and equipment. Right now the lease is through June 30 but could be extended later if needed.
