QuikTrip to test ID locked beer fridges

TULSA, Okla. — QuikTrip has recently installed new refrigerators that will not open without having an ID scanned.

The fridges are mostly for beer, as wine is sold at room temperature.

They were installed as a test to reduce underage alcohol consumption.

QuikTrip’s Corporate Communications Manager explained how these scanners work:

“The Beer Access Scanning system is designed for customers to scan their ID, pick the specific door they would like to purchase product from and go to the cash register and purchase.”

In addition, cashiers will still be checking ID when someone purchases alcohol.

They are currently installed these locations:

  • Admiral and Yale
  • 51st and Lewis
  • Admiral and Harvard
