Police: Woman arrested after skating rink fight, hitting two people with her car

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — Police arrested a woman Thursday night after an altercation at a Sand Springs skating rink led to two people getting hit by her car.

Sand Springs police responded to a call about a fight at Skates near 4th Street and Adams Road around 10:30 p.m.

Police say an employee pointed out Chanista Karns as the woman involved in the fight who was trying to leave. Officers arrived to stop Karns from leaving but not after she had allegedly run over two people with her car.

Police say the fight started when Karns got into an argument with a man then went after a woman with a pair of skates. Witnesses say more people got involved in the fight before management kicked them all out of the rink.

Officers say that is when Karns got into her car and drove it toward three people -- hitting two of them.

No one was taken to the hospital.

Police say Karns was drunk and is facing charges for DUI, assault with a deadly weapon, and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

The manager of the skating rink told FOX23's Naomi Keitt she was not there at the time of the fight, but that they do not normally have problems at the rink. She says most of the people there last night she had seen before, but the woman who was arrested was not a regular. Skates will be open from 6:30-10:30 Friday.
