• Police say QuikTrip security guard shoots man in self-defense after nearly being hit with didgeridoo

    • Tulsa police responded to a shooting call on Sunday just after 1 a.m. at the QuikTrip located at 1443 S. Denver Ave. 
    • Police say that a security guard claims he shot a man in self-defense after that man swung a didgeridoo, or large wooden club, at him. 
    • TPD says that the security guard saw a fight start inside the QT and then proceed outside.
    • Witnesses at the scene say that the man also had a knife. 
    • Officers found James Middlestadt lying on the ground near the QT with a gunshot wound in his groin area. 
    • Police interviewed the security guard downtown and found that his story matched up with surveillance video. 
    • Police discovered two cartridge casings in the parking lot and the large wooden didgeridoo.
