Police say ice-cream eating suspect prompted standoff at Tulsa Mayfest site

TULSA, Okla. — A man is in police custody after a standoff at the Mayfest site in downtown Tulsa Sunday.

Officers said that Jason Mitchell, 33, broke into a vendor's booth around 9 a.m., ate ice cream inside in the booth and took multiple items.

They said Mitchell also threatened officers with a knife.

Police said they were able get Mitchell to come out of the booth without using force after about an hour.

They said the suspect likely suffered from mental health issues and had possibly been under the influence of drugs.

He faces burglary charges.

Mayfest's Sunday events began at 11 a.m.
