• One dead after fire at south Tulsa apartment

    One man is dead and several people are without homes after an apartment fire in south Tulsa.

    Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire at The Park at Forest Oaks apartment complex near 71st and Lewis the morning of December 10.

    Tulsa firefighters told FOX23 they received multiple calls about the fire around 3 a.m. Monday. When they arrived on the scene, they found one man dead outside of the building. Investigators said 67-year-old Jerry Hou walked out of his apartment on fire then collapsed after making it down the stairs.

    Investigators determined the fire was accidental and started in one of the units below Hou's apartment.

    Firefighters said about 12 units in the apartment were damaged. Four were destroyed by fire and the others were badly damaged by smoke and water.

    The Red Cross responded to the fire and is helping 15 displaced people get food, clothing, and somewhere to stay. The apartment complex is also working to get displaced people other apartments to live in.
