Sen. Lankford writes Secretary of Defense about religious accommodations for COVID-19 vaccine

Sen. James Lankford wrote a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin over religious accommodations for the COVID-19 vaccine.

The U.S. senator from Oklahoma wrote that he wants to know why they aren’t being granted. Lankford’s office said the department has granted almost zero requests for religious accommodations despite receiving almost 20,000 requests among the service branches.

His office added that the U.S. Marines reportedly have two religious accommodations out of more than 3,300 requests.

“Clearly, religion-based vaccine exemption requests and appeals are not being respectfully considered,” Lankford wrote.

Austin has yet to respond to Lankford’s letter.
