TULSA, Okla. — Quick Facts:
- New apartments are opening in downtown Tulsa
- They are housed in the former TransOK building in the Deco District
One of the first buildings constructed during Tulsa’s art deco era was brought back to life in a new light this year.
Residents are moving into new apartments inside the former TransOK building this weekend.
“It’s really nice to kind of revive that charm,” said Daniel Regan with the new Art Deco Lofts and Apartments.
The building dates back to the 1920s when it was the headquarters for PSO. At the time, it was known by many Tulsans as the “Monument of Lights.”
The unique structure was built with the same type of limestone used in the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty.
