Man suspected of injuring 9 officers, killing woman in Phoenix, AZ. has a criminal record in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — Police on Friday afternoon identified 36-year-old Morris Richard Jones III as the man who is accused of killing a woman and injuring nine police officers in a shooting reported hours earlier at a home in Phoenix.

Jones was convicted in 2004 for being in possession of a stolen car and plead guilty to resisting officers in 2014.

Authorities said the Phoenix Police Department’s SWAT team found Jones dead of an apparent gunshot wound after he shot a woman and five police officers at a home near the intersection of 54th Avenue and Elwood Street.

Phoenix Police said four other officers were injured Friday morning by shrapnel after responding around 2:15 a.m. to a report of a shooting at the home. They added that four of the five officers who were injured by gunfire remained hospitalized on Friday afternoon.

It was not immediately clear whether Jones died of a self-inflicted wound.
