The murder happened near Admiral and Florence on Jan. 5. Police arrived to the scene and found Michael Johnson on the front porch of his home with a gunshot wound to his head. Johnson died from his injuries at a hospital that afternoon.

Court documents reveal details about what happened the night of the shooting. They say officers were called to the home on North Florence around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 5.

Johnson was coming home with his girlfriend from a casino where he’d won some money.

The couple was ambushed when they got out of their car. A group of people chased them and shot Johnson in the head.

During the investigation, detectives received information that Johnson owed money for drugs to a man currently incarcerated in the Department of Corrections and is part of the Aryan Brotherhood Prison Gang. A group of people were allegedly ordered to take money from Johnson, or take Johnson’s Ford Mustang.

Detectives’ information stated Couch, York and another person arrived at Johnson’s home to steal his Mustang, and confronted Johnson and his girlfriend when they got there. Johnson ran to the front porch when he was shot in the head.

On Jan. 10, Couch was arrested and interviewed by homicide detectives when he admitted he had shot Johnson with his pistol.
