Woman in critical condition after crossing street, struck by car in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — A woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after getting struck by a car Friday night, said Tulsa police.

Police say a 78-year-old woman who lived near 8800 E. 31st St. in east Tulsa was trying to cross a dimly lit street when a car struck her.

Tulsa firefighters reportedly arrived first on scene and took the unconscious woman to St. John’s hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle told officers they did not have time to avoid the collision because the woman ran out in the street.

Officers say they do believe the poorly lit area may have contributed to the accident. They say they do not know why the woman crossed the street as there were no other witnesses in the area to report more on the situation.

The department’s Advanced Traffic Investigators will be reportedly looking more into this serious collision as they have training in reconstruction of serious collisions.

Officers say they cited the driver of the vehicle for no insurance and was released.
