Tulsa police officer hurt by suspected drunk driver

TULSA, Okla. — An officer is recovering after getting injured by a suspected drunk driver in north Tulsa early Monday morning.

Tulsa police were called to an area near East 46th Street North and Lewis around 2 a.m. about a cow in the road.

While searching for the cow, police say a person driving at a much higher speed than the officer hit his car from behind -- sending both cars off the roadway near Yorktown.

More officers arrived to find the injured officer moving but complaining about soreness in his neck.

Police say the woman driving the other car initially refused to tell them who she was before eventually identifying herself as Demetria Thompson.

Officers say they found several alcoholic drinks in the car and that Thompson “had a strong odor of intoxicants on her person.”

Paramedics took Thompson and the officer to the hospital where Thompson got a blood draw. She is facing charges for Driving Under the Influence.
