Tulsa nonprofit looking for help getting food to local families

Local organization partners with churches to get people fresh food

TULSA, Okla. — R&G Family Grocer is looking for volunteers to help bag food for the most vulnerable populations in Tulsa during the COVID-19 crisis.

The executive director told FOX23 they are taking extra precautions to keep volunteers safe while packing bags.

Volunteers work in stations that sit six feet apart with gloves and sanitized surfaces.

The grocer is run by the nonprofit Healthy Community Store Initiative and funding for the food comes from the George Kaiser Family Foundation, donations, and grants.

Nine local churches are helping distribute the food -- but they still need volunteers.
