Tulsa man finds stranger in his home, takes matters into his own hands

TULSA, Okla. — Police said Sunday morning officers responded to a burglary in progress call at a home near 101st and Memorial.

Officers arrested Nikolas Benitez after they say the homeowner discovered him inside his house and called 911.

FOX23 News spoke to the homeowner Jeff Bray the next day. He says he woke up to his mother-in-law screaming.

Bray said he had a gun by his bed and got up to check the home. He said Benitez had walked in the garage, inside the house and went upstairs.

When Bray spotted Benitez, standing there, by the bedroom door, he says he then grabbed Benitez by the neck and forced him down the stairs and out the front door.

Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean said, “The homeowner could have felt very threatened...it could have gone different ways, but we’re glad it went the way it did.”

Officers found Benitez walking nearby and arrested him for 1st degree burglary and drug possession.
