Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association hold school supply giveaway Saturday

TULSA, Okla. — Teachers across Green Country are preparing for the start of the school year.

On Saturday, the Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association held a supply giveaway for teachers.

“People don’t think about it, they just assume we get it all for free and we don’t have to worry about it,” said Tulsa Public Schools teacher David Thom. “It’s an invisible expense people don’t know about.”

Every year, the classroom teachers association hold their annual give and grab event.

“There first paycheck doesn’t come until the first of September and some are coming from out of state,” said LeeAnee Jimenez, vice president of TCTA. “So, imagine if you are starting school and you have six weeks until your first paycheck.”

The group will be hosting another event for Tulsa Public Schools teachers next Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
