• Man drowns in Illinois River

    TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Quick facts:

    • There were two near drowning on an Oklahoma river in one weekend because of high water.

    A man pulled from the Illinois River unconscious has died.

    According to Captain Bill James from the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission Rangers, Gregory McMillian, 49, of Ardmore was floating with a group in a raft above Combs Bridge on the upper Illinois River around 3 p.m. Sunday when his raft struck a tree and was sucked under the water. He was ejected and sucked under the tree.

    McMillan was located by friends and pulled from the water 200 yards downstream.

    He was taken to  Northeastern Health Systems in Tahlequah. He died late Sunday night.

    He was not wearing a life jacket.
