DEWAR, Okla. — The Okmulgee County Sheriff’s office says a 17-year-old girl drowned after falling through ice on a pond.
Deputies say they responded to the call around 5 p.m. Thursday.
Multiple agencies responded to assist, including both Dewar and Henryetta Police and Fire Departments.
A search of the pond was conducted and the girl, Tristan Gaither, was later found dead.
The first responding units found a dog stranded in the water and it appears Gaither may have been out on the ice attempting to rescue the dog when the ice gave way.
